    Learn How to Regulate Emotions, Build Healthier Relationships & Improve Mental Resilience in a safe, nonjudgmental space to learn and grow. DBT is an evidence-based approach that teaches life-changing skills.

    These classes are perfect for people with ADHD, Autism, Anxiety, Depression, Trauma history, people who want to better be able to predict, understand and regulate their emotions, build cognitive flexibility and trust in themselves, build healthier relationships by decreasing loneliness and/or relationship overwhelm, people pleasing tendencies, people healing from years of invalidation from others

In person classes offered in Portland and Lake Oswego, Oregon. Virtual classes are also offered via Zoom.

  • This 6 month course teaches you all of the DBT skills taught by a licensed therapist. You’ll learn how to create healthy habits that help you work with your brain’s unique way of thinking, all with the goal of experiencing relief, empowerment, and camaraderie.

DBT Skills Course Content

  • Mindfulness Skills

    Learn and practice how to be present in the moment, gain more awareness and understanding of your mind, body and emotions. Learn mental resilience and how to change thinking patterns to increase self acceptance, resilience and adaptability.

  • Interpersonal Effectiveness Skills

    Gain understanding into relationship patterns that may be causing you stress, loneliness, or overwhelm in your relationships. Learn skills to change these dynamics in order to have more fair, peaceful and healthy relationships. Learn communication strategies to improve clear communication. Learn how to set and hold healthy limits while keeping relationships strong.

  • Emotion Regulation Skills

    Learn how to understand your emotions as well as healthy ways to process and express emotions. Learn strategies to change your emotions when you need to. Learn ways to reduce your vulnerability to stress and emotional suffering by building habits that help improve your mood.

  • Distress Tolerance Skills

    Learn how to safely handle life’s most difficult and intense emotions. Increase your ability to reduce the intensity of high distress and decrease your fear of emotions due to gaining ability to regulation emotions, understand your emotions and get what you need.

Course structure

This is a 6 month, live course that meets weekly for an hour and a half in person in Portland and Lake Oswego, Oregon and via Zoom for virtual classes. The course is taught by Leslie Miller, Licensed Professional Counselor.

Before joining the course, you’ll meet with Leslie to learn more details and so you both can determine if this course is right for you.

This is an educational course and you can expect the majority of each class to consist of new material taught by Leslie each week using audio and visual teaching methods. You’ll learn strategies each week that you can take with you and put into practice.

This is run as a live class so you can ask questions, learn from each other, and build community.

This course is not intended to replace therapy. Many people in a DBT class will want and find having an individual therapist to be helpful. Leslie can help you connect to options for individual therapy if you are interested.

This level of DBT education is not appropriate for people experiencing life threatening mental illness such as suicidal ideation and behavior, self harm behaviors, severe eating disorders or substance use that is dangerous/life threatening. People with these symptoms will need a more intensive type of DBT that is not offered at Discover Therapy PDX. People with these symptoms need “Full Fidelity” DBT which is a more intensive treatment involving weekly individual counseling with a DBT therapist, DBT skills training group, access to phone coaching and possibly medication management/dietician services. Discover Therapy PDX can offer referrals on local agencies that offer those more intensive levels of DBT care.
